Amid the backdrop of a global pandemic, Butuan City's tourism sector has demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability, with CY2023 recording a notable 38% increase in tourist arrivals compared to the previous year.
Operating under new normal conditions, our city welcomed a total of 144,146 arrivals in 2023, a testament to the concerted efforts of the Department of Tourism Caraga Regional Office and the City Government of Butuan in safely reopening tourism-related enterprises.
A staggering 90% of accommodation establishments resumed operations, catering to both domestic and foreign guests. Monthly averages of 16,263 and 369 visitors were welcomed, respectively, contributing to a total of 199,587 tourists exploring our city's wonders.
Demographic breakdowns revealed a majority of male tourists, with 105,084 arrivals, closely followed by 94,503 female arrivals, highlighting the broad appeal of our offerings.
The influx of tourists translated into 223,928 guest nights, generating an impressive Php. 559,820,000.00 in indirect economic benefits to our city. These figures underscore the vital role of tourism in driving economic growth and development.
