For 2009, the City Government of Butuan has released Nine Hundred Seventy Thousand Pesos ( Php 970,000.00) to 21 qualified OFWs thru its Financial Assistance for PlacedOFWs Program, otherwise known as the “Fly-Now-Pay-Later” program.

A special credit facility not found in other LGUs, the Financial Assistance for Placed Overseas Workers, allows applicants for jobs abroad to borrow money for their placement fee WITHOUT INTEREST.

Under this scheme, the borrower is given an ample period of 4 months after deployment to pay off the loaned amount.

As of November 15, 2009 the City Government, has screened and approved 75 loan applications amounting to Php 3,104,425.00, with Php 150,000.00 as the biggest amount facilitated to an individual.
Since its launching in 2005, the program has been running quite successfully, with return rate of close to a hundred percent.
