VMLP – Agusan del Norte, Caraga Region Officers Took Oath

To officially seal their offices, the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines – Agusan del Norte Chapter New Board of Officers took their oath on October 15, 2010 at the Office of the Governor of Agusan del Norte Province, Capitol, Butuan City. Agusan del Norte Vice Governor Enrico R. Corvera served as the Inducting Officer of the eight vice mayors present during the special occasion.

After their induction, the chapter members then convened for their second chapter meeting at Uncle Sam’s Burger and Steak, in which they approved VMLP Resolution No. 002-2010, “A Resolution requesting the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines National Office, thru Executive Director Christopher C. Abcede to provide medicines and other medical supplies for the planned Medical, Dental, and Legal Mission of the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines – Agusan del Norte Chapter.”

The Chapter expressed strong hope that the solicited assistance from the national office would bear fruit, so its programmed mission would be successfully conducted.

Succeeding this event was the Regional Election of Officers of the VMLP – Caraga Region the following week on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Dottie’s Place Hotel and Restaurant. This was attended by a total of 46 vice mayors, with 9 hailing from Agusan del Norte, 7 from Agusan del Sur, 17 from Surigao del Norte, 9 from Surigao del Sur, and 4 from the Province of Dinagat Islands.

The program commenced with the traditional opening ceremonies, with Interim Regional Chairman Ramon A. G. Bungabong presiding and opening the convention. The vice mayor delegates were then recognized individually according to province.

As host delegate, Butuan City Vice Mayor Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun formally welcomed the assembly. After which, Butuan City Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. delivered his special message to the gathering.

Prior to the election proceedings, Interim Chairman Bungabong called for a short meeting, in which he read Section 6 of the VMLP Election Policy and Guidelines, which states that in a Regional Council Election, “Fifty percent of those who have registered and are in good standing constitute a quorum.” With the presence of 39 vice mayors in the assembly, a quorum was declared by Interim Chairman Bungabong.

In abidance to the VMLP Election Policy and Guidelines, Assistant Regional Director Lilibeth A. Famacion of DILG Caraga, the representative of Regional Director Rene Burdeos, stood as COMELEC Chairman, while Ms. Inah S. Campos of the VMLP National Office assumed seat as Vice-Chairman.

Completing the committee were three Surigao del Norte vice mayors, namely: Vice Mayor Denia T. Florano of Socorro, Vice Mayor Merle B. Origenes of Tagana-an, and Vice Mayor Remelita B. Roculas of San Benito.

The ensuing election resulted to the following line-up of proclaimed winners:

Vice Chairman - Conrad C. Cejoco, Bislig City

Secretary – General - Dulmar M. Raagas, Malimono, Surigao del Norte

Treasurer - Uldarico S. Uriarte, Jr., Alegria, Surigao del Norte

Auditor - Frederick Mark P. Mellana, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur

PRO - Ramon A. G. Bungabong, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte

Board of Directors:

Mario D. Bagunas, San Jose, Dinagat Islands

Symond O. Caguiat, Sta. Josefa, Agusan del Sur

Eddie M. Escuyos, Sr., Pilar, Surigao del Norte

Robert M. Lala, Jr. of Lianga, Surigao del Sur

Wilfredo T. Taglucop, Carmen, Agusan del Norte

As the new Regional Chairman of VMLP Caraga, Vice Mayor Fortun looks forward to a more active regional council. He hopes for the council to really become a mechanism of educational learning for Caraga vice mayors to exchange ideas and share best practices, so to mutually bring progress to their respective local government units.
