Mayor Plaza Gives His New Year's Message

City Mayor Democrito "Boy Daku" Plaza II delivered his New Year' s message before the city government employees during  the flag raising ceremony on January 4, 2010 at the City Hall grounds.

Mayor Plaza was thankful for the  support of the city employees to  his programs and projects that eleviate the plight of the most marginalized sector of our society. In his message, the City Mayor criticized  also the Supreme Court  for reversing its previous decision to nullify for  being unconstitutional , the cityhood of 16 municipalities. The SC is supposed to render finality to any of its decision. But with this latest development, this issue will only dragged on as the League of Cities, the major propronent opposing the conversion of these towns into cities,  will  seek  motion for reconsideration.  As a result of this turn-around, the city will lose about P70 million from its Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share  from the national coffers as the region has  3 new cities, namely, Cabadbaran City, Bayugan City and Tandag City.

Former City Mayor Daisy B. Plaza , in her message, also expressed her gratitude to the city employees for their continued support to the administration of Mayor Boy  and she looks forward to a very fruitful 2010, the year of the metal tiger.

After the flag raising ceremony, the city employees paid their traditional courtesy call to the first couple as they get busy for the scheduled visit  to the city of President Gloria Macapagal  Arroyo on Tuesday, January 5, her first provincial sortie this year. The President is expected to sign into law the conversion of NORMISIST into a state university , to be officially known as the Caraga State University. She is to meet also with Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos whom she appointed to the Commission on Private Armies, a recommendatory body created to assist in the complete dismantling of private armies cuddled  by politicians.
