EDTV Project benefits Mla de Bugabus Elementary School
Before school year 2011 – 2012 starts, a synergy of efforts was undertaken by ABS-CBN E-Media Foundation, Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Kuwait Alumni Association (KAA) – 153, and the Office of City Vice Mayor Lawrence Fortun for an educational cause.
This collaboration took roots months back when Vice Mayor Fortun, an APO member met up with a co-APO member affiliated to the APO KAA – 153. Their discourse dwelled on the subject of sponsoring educational facilities for underprivileged schools throughout the country via ABS-CBN’s Adopt a Hometown School Project, of which 6 schools have already been sponsored by the organization.
Knowing how good this project is, Vice Mayor Fortun suggested that Butuan City be counted as the organization’s latest beneficiary. Thus was born the 7th APOKAA – FILBACK EDTV Project.
The selected beneficiary was Manila de Bugabus Elementary School, which belongs to the South District of the Department of Education, Butuan City Schools Division. The school was selected based on its lack of educational facilities, particularly books, for teachers to use in lectures to pupils.
The turnover took place on May 23, 2011. Around 30 members of the APO KAA – 153, headed by Engr. Ernesto Salting visited the beneficiary school, together with Vice Mayor Law Fortun and ABS-CBN Regional Network Group Representative Charmane Dumanon - Awitan. Representing the school were South District Supervisor Melba Gargoles, School Principal Alejandro Macadatar, General PTA President Pedro Sungahid, Jr., and Pupil Government President Charlyn Labuan, who received the educational grant, comprising a television, a DVD player, and educational DVDs. This was done before the witness of parents and their pupil children, who were also present in the school for the Brigada Eskwela.
The school and the barangay, represented by Punong Barangay Escolastica Leguid expressed profuse thanks to the donors for their philanthropic endeavor, which is a big help to the school’s efforts in upgrading the quality of education it serves to its pupils.
