Butuan City declared in State of Calamity
In response to the onslaught of heavy rains since January 02, 2011, which has affected the City with floods in many barangays, causing residents to move out of their homes and seek temporary shelter in evacuation centers, the Sangguniang Panlungsod started the New Year with an urgent declaration of the city under a Partial State of Calamity under SP Resolution No. 001-2011 enacted on January 03, 2011. As of this date, the Barangays of Ampayon, Los Angeles, Baobaoan, Santo Niño, Lemon, Bobon, Cabcabon, Banza, Bading, and Dankias were gravely affected.
The following day, January 04, 2011, the Sanggunian adopted a follow-up policy, SP Resolution No. 004-2011, which placed the entire city under a State of Calamity, as recommended by the Local Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Council. This was justified by the CSWD Certification stating that a total of 49 barangays had already been affected by floods, compounded by the City Engineeer’s Office’s initial report of PhP10.6 Million in damages to infrastructure, and the Office of the City Agriculturist’s initial report of PhP16.3 Million in damages to crops, livestock, fishponds, and fish cages.
