COMMUNITY-BASED SEED BANKING ON ORGANIC UPLAND RICE PRODUCTION LAUNCHED
(February 9, 2012) – The community-based Seed Banking on Organic Upland Production was launched today, February 09, 2012, 8:00 A.M. at Barangay Florida, Butuan City. The said barangay was chosen to be the lead demo site for the planting of the distributed registered seeds from PhilRice.
These seeds are expected for harvest on April 2012, in which fifty seven (57) active upland farmers would benefit and a total of thirty four (34) rural barangays could also take advantage of.
This project aims to increase rice production in lowland areas and would also be a great opportunity for the upland farmers who are interested to avail registered seeds from the Department of Agriculture.
The launching was attended by City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr., DA-13 RED Edna M. Mabeza, ATI Director Nenita D. Sumile, staff from the City Agriculturist’s Office and the farmers of the said barangay. – Maria Luisa Dianah Z. Generalao/CMO-PIO
